Chevrolet Captiva

Available in diesel and gas, GM’s CUV comes with far improved credentials over its established peers. It’s very mush in the quality/value for money mold of the slightly smaller Kia Sportage/Hyundai Tucson with ride and handling honed to allow it to wear the Opel Antara badge in Europe. On the highway, the Captiva, with its Audi Q7 profile, proved quite absorbent of bumps like Honda CR-V. The steering has a peculiar self-centering feel. The Captiva diesel has the “in-demand” CRDI engine; so good that the GM plant in Korea cannot keep up with the global demand. From a style and equipment point of view, it ups the ante on the established ASEAN CUVs and both rivals from Korea. Think of it as Chevrolet’s CR-V.

Is this the solution to the cramped up city parking lots?

Living in a cramped up urban area can sometimes get in the nerves of car drivers. Overpopulated city equals fewer parking spaces, that’s it for them. Sometimes you find yourself swearing since the only available empty parking space is so small, that you couldn’t open your car doors if ever you take that spot. Thanks to the car beside the empty space. He probably needs more parking 101.

But of course, innovation and creativity has an answer. Joalto Design Inc. managed to conceptualize a design that made parking in cramped spaces less of a hassle. They tested their design with the 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII, but sadly, when they sent the car back to Ford, Ford rejected the idea of having “roll down” doors.

The American Car Design

post-247.jpg

Americas cultural character is often reflected in their cars. The US outgoing and optimistic nature are always a remarkable feature of its car designs. The concept car Ford 427, for example, has the brash style that is uniquely American. For Dodge, its the big grill that represents its big engine.

Through the years, American car design has distinguished itself effectively from its European and Asian counterparts. Most American car companies are chrome-oriented, with the GM reasserting chromes in its Buick and Chevrolet brands.

Indeed, American car companies are conceptualizing their designs based on their cultural roots to attract buyers. And this is something that Asian and European car makers have yet to come up with.
