Car Care Tip: Invest in Vehicle Protection

Car theft is a reality of life. Taking precautionary measures are sometimes not enough to safeguard your car or keep it away from the sight of car thieves. One way of ensuring that your car doesn’t get stolen easily is to invest in vehicle protection.

When we say vehicle protection, we mean those additional devices and security systems installed in a car to help maximize security and prevent car theft. They include ignition kill switch, gearshift locks, armored collar around steering column, electronic security systems and vehicle monitoring device, among others.

Car safety is every car owner’s concern. You know you don’t want your car to get stolen that easy especially if you are one of those who work your butt off just to afford one.

Reality check: due to the economic downfall, shortages, unemployment and other economic issues, we have seen a lot of “good men gone bad” incidents. Car theft is common and these thieves are getting more innovative and creative as technology lifts off to another height.

Do you wish you could put a tracker inside your car so that by the time this happens to you (I pray not!), then you would be able to track your car with the help of the authorities.

Introducing GM’s OnStar. OnStar is a company (under GM) that provides communications, GPS locator and the like. This service, however, is only available for GM manufactured cars.

Corvette Z06

Corvette Z06 has actually been a closet fuel miser, but few people have known the reality. The Z06 is the current king of the hill ‘Vette, with a tire-shredding 500 horsepower on tap, and managed an impressive trip average of 23.4 mpg…a fast car is not automatically a gas hog.

Why is a Z06 a good buy when it comes to gas?

It’s science at work here. Weight and aerodynamic drag are two primary enemies of fuel efficiency, which explains why heavy, blunt-faced, traditional sport utility vehicles and minivans generally suck down fuel and the sleek, relatively light-weight Z06 burns conservatively.

So if you are the 40 something or 50 something baby boomer accused of buying a Corvette because of a mid-life crisis, you can retort by pointing out your Corvette gets more miles-to-the-gallon than your buddy’s Land Rover or minivan.
