General Motors didn’t have a very good run in the last few years. The popular US auto maker was so dangerously in the ropes that was even on the brink of bankruptcy. But GM is nothing but resilient and now after their troubles, it is showing signs that it’s raring to fight once again. Just recently, GM’s Chevrolet Volt was voted 2011 North American Car of the Year, the latest award the car has received after getting Motor Trend Magazine’s Car of The Year and Green Car of The Year nods.

The noteworthy thing about this is that the Volt beat tough competition from Nissan and Hyundai. We just may see more good things coming out of the GM plant in the future.

Reality check: due to the economic downfall, shortages, unemployment and other economic issues, we have seen a lot of “good men gone bad” incidents. Car theft is common and these thieves are getting more innovative and creative as technology lifts off to another height.

Do you wish you could put a tracker inside your car so that by the time this happens to you (I pray not!), then you would be able to track your car with the help of the authorities.

Introducing GM’s OnStar. OnStar is a company (under GM) that provides communications, GPS locator and the like. This service, however, is only available for GM manufactured cars.

Did you know that the New Cadillac CTS by General Motors (GM) was named car of the year by the Motor Trend Magazine? Yes, thats true and this goes to show that GM is now back in producing cars after investing largely on sports utility vehicles and trucks.

For car buff like me, this is quite interesting. Now that GMs back in the car business, expect to see more stylish, high-powered and innovative cars soon.

CNN reports that the CTS won from a field of 18 significant vehicles, beating German and Japanese competitors in performance, fit and finish, quality of materials and performance.

General Motors (GM) has started working on its Volt concept in an attempt to hit production lines in 2010. In fact, AutoWeek.com reports that GM will be starting testing the Volt propulsion systems this month.

GM is said to experiment on the lithium-ion-powered battery packs using Chevrolet Malibus. The technology called E-Flex will be taken to the road to monitor its performance.

I have high hopes for this one. I have always believed in the capacity of GM to produce outstanding cars. The fact that its hands are now working to put the Chevrolet Volt concept into reality shows that GM is serious about this vehicle concept.

Several economic factors such as the rising prices of fuel, credit messes and low consumer confidence are seen as the culprit. Other American automaker decliners include General Motors and Ford at 18.7 percent and 14.1 percent, respectively.

The figures have spoken. Based on the data, there were more losers than winners. Is it a clear sign that the automotive industry has really been going down? Or is it just that a lot of people are using their money to more smart investments than the good old car?
